10 Things To Create A Happier You

Happiness is one of the most positive emotions we can experience, but being happy is also the key to a fulfilled, healthy life. Happiness determines how we achieve our goals, improves physical wellness, enables us to live longer, it improves our immune system and enables many other health benefits.

There are two kinds of happiness, short term and long term. It is the long term version that we should all aim for. The former is fleeting, while the latter allows us to create a more satisfying life, full of more positive emotions.

Some things that affect our happiness are outside of our control, but there are always things we can do to increase good feelings, to become more satisfied with our lot. Introduce these factors into your life, smile more and feel wonderful.

1. Spend time outside

Spending time in the great outdoors improves mental health; it can stimulate the parts of your brain associated with happiness, positivity and emotional stability.

2. Exercise

Regular exercise does not conjure up images of happiness for a lot of people, but it can and does contribute to the overall feeling of happiness. Exercise helps our bodies produce antibodies (disease fighting proteins) and helps our brains release endorphins. Endorphins are feel good chemicals that boost your mood and promote feelings of euphoria and being illness free naturally increases your overall happiness; research shows that regular activity may lead to lasting happiness.

3. Sleep more

If you want a happier healthier life quality sleep is vital. A full night’s sleep, catnaps, power naps they all help your well-being and happiness. Research shows that not sleeping enough may lead to under achieving, low performance levels and low levels of optimism.

4. Meditate.

Research shows that meditation can lead to greater happiness. It increases empathy, allows you to be more social, have better team orientated mentality, and encourages more kindness and gratitude. This all leads to a happier you and a happier lifestyle.

5. Listening to music

Try frowning while listening to upbeat songs. Music can help reduce stress, which leads to greater happiness in general, so the next time you pump up the volume, smile and keep positive intentions in mind.

6. Spread it around

Happiness is contagious, so spread it around. When you are happy it spreads to your friends and family and they spread it to their friends and family. What a wonderful way to influence others by creating a social network of happy people.

7. Regular self-care.

Treat yourself, pamper yourself, praise yourself regularly, these action will improve your long term health and happiness. We live in a fast paced, stressed filled society and we often forget about ourselves, this can lead to unhappiness, burn out and illness. So take time out for self-care and watch your happiness levels grow.

8. Complain constructively

When you have a complaint voice your concerns constructively, identify the problem and take positive actions to address it. This makes you feel empowered, increases your self-esteem and leads to you feeling happier about yourself. Complaining consistently without taking positive action makes you feel inadequate, insignificant, disempowered and therefore unhappy within yourself.

9. Achieving your goals

Procrastination diminishes happiness, because it prevents us from achieving our goals. Working towards achieving your goals gives you a mental boost and while some tasks produce stress along the way, once accomplished, they make us infinitely happier in the long run.

10. Your mind

Your mind does exactly what it thinks you want it to do and what it absolutely believes is in your very best interest, so if you want to be happy, tell your mind. Use very specific, detailed, words when telling your mind what you want. “I want to be happy. “I’ve chosen to be happy.” Then add things like “It thrills me to be happy.” Or “being happy delights me, it makes me feel great.” If your mind understands you have chosen to be happy and you are excited about it, it will help you achieve it. Feeling happy and visualising yourself as being happy at every opportunity will create your reality of happiness.

Warm, happy wishes
